Chemistry

Establishment

The department of Chemistry was established in the year of 1991. Now it is one of the most prominent departments in the Science faculty. The students from rural background were provided the opportunity to pursue their higher studies in Chemistry Subject. Hence the responsibility of the department is very huge one. The department of Chemistry is dynamically involved in the process of teaching, learning and evaluation since its establishment. It has been always determined to increase the level of quality education undertaking various kinds of curricular and co-curricular activities for the students. It believes in high performance and quality standards in pursuing the higher education and often forwarded its steps in this regard. Apart from the regular teaching-learning, it also tries to impart informal education like inculcating the human values such as among students. Most of the students of our department have been teachers and Assistant Professors and doing jobs in different fields. The Department of Chemistry sensitizes students towards knowledge and research, thereby fostering skills to promote future professionals in the fields of education, research, business, and publishing.

Chemistry puts you at the heart of science, and Chemistry graduates are in demand by some of the most successful industries in India. Chemistry is often referred to as the ‘central science’ because an understanding of material at a molecular level underpins research and development from Biology to Solid State Physics. Modern Chemical research is a creative activity involving techniques across this wide range of science to actively design and synthesize molecules and materials, and determine their properties. A degree in Chemistry makes you highly employable: not only does it provide you with quantitative and practical skills for scientific and technical roles, but it also develops your transferable skills such as problem-solving that are valued by all employers. After graduation, student can get enrolled in PG courses such as M.Sc. in inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, polymer science, forensic science, material science, biotechnology, nanotechnology etc. The Department of Chemistry has well equipped laboratories with required chemicals for conducting regular practical classes as well as research activities. These labs are also equipped with instruments like spectrophotometer, conductivity meter, pH meters, flame photometer, colorimeter, UV-visible, spectrophotometer, centrifuge machines, digital balances etc.

Objectives of the Department

1. To create interest of students in Chemistry.

2. To make students to be able to stand on their own by acquiring the basic knowledge of Chemistry.

3. To enhance the knowledge about chemicals and their different types of reaction to students.

4. To create skills in the students required for employment.

5. To urge students to research in the field of chemistry.

6. To offer stage for students to build their career in Chemistry.

7. To acquaint the students of job opportunities in the field of chemistry.

About Research:

All the faculty members of the department of Chemistry are research oriented. They are constantly publishing research papers in the national and international journals. Some of them have published books also. The faculty actively participates in the national and international level seminars and conferences.
