Establishment

The department of English was established in the year of 1991. Now it is one of the most prominent departments in the Arts faculty as it is related with three faculties—Arts, Commerce and Science. The students from rural background were provided the opportunity to pursue their higher studies in English Language & Literature. Hence the responsibility of the department is very huge one. The department of English is dynamically involved in the process of teaching, learning and evaluation since its establishment. It has been always determined to increase the level of quality education undertaking various kinds of curricular and co-curricular activities for the students. It believes in high performance and quality standards in pursuing the higher education and often forwarded its steps in this regard. Apart from the regular teaching-learning, it also tries to impart informal education like inculcating the human values such as love and compassion among students. It has an illustrious history both with regard to faculty and alumni alike. Dr. Kamal Thakar, the formerly Principal of Azad Mahavidyalaya had been the head of the department. Dr. Shaikh Afsar Nawaboddin, the President of Ausa Municipal Council and Mr. Ravikiran Ubale, IAAS are some of our prominent alumni. Most of the students of our department have been teachers and Assistant Professors and doing jobs in different fields. The Department of English sensitizes students towards language and literature learning, thereby fostering skills to promote future professionals in the fields of education, research, business, and publishing.

Objectives of the Department

  1. To create interest of students in English language & literature.
  2. To make students to be able to stand on their own by acquiring the basic skills of English language.
  3. To enhance the communicative competence of the students.
  4. To appreciate and analyse literary texts from various perspectives.
  5. To create skills in the students required for employment.
  6. To urge students to perceive themselves as professionals in teaching, publishing, or research.
  7. To offer stage for students to build their career in English language & creative writing.
  8. To acquaint the students of job opportunities in the field of language & literature.

About Research:

Dr. Syed N.K. and Dr. Shaikh A.N. are the recognized Ph. D Guides of S.R.T.M.U. Nanded. Four research scholars are doing PhD under the guidance of Dr. Syed N.K. All the faculty members of the department of English are research oriented. They are constantly publishing research papers in the national and international journals. Some of them have published books also. The faculty actively participates in the national and international level seminars and conferences. The department of English has also organized one National Level Conference on Modern Trend in Indian Writing in English.
